Alicia Lynn Grega is a writer, artist, and professor from Scranton, Pennsylvania. She’s been teaching arts, literature, communications, and writing courses at Lackawanna College since 2016. She also teaches screenwriting at the University of Cincinnati and public speaking at Wilkes University. From January 2020 to July 2022, she worked on a U.S. Department of Education research project led by the Philadelphia Arts in Education Partnership to integrate arts into elementary school curricula in Hazleton, PA. A playwright and screenwriter by passion, she is a member of the Dramatists Guild of America and a rostered artist with Arts in Education Northeast Pennsylvania, a partner organization of the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts.

Previously, she worked as an arts writer/editor at The Scranton Times-Tribune (electric city) for 15 years (2001-2016), and in nonprofit marketing and communications for organizations including the Catherine McAuley Center for women and children experiencing homelessness (2019-2022). Freelance and theatre projects include work with the Lackawanna County Council for Arts, Culture, and Education; United Neighborhood Centers; Scranton Fringe; The Living Theatre; Lackawanna ProBono; ScrantonMade; TEDx Scranton; Scranton Public Theatre; Electric Theatre Company; and private clients.

Alicia has published two books of poetry including Haptikos in 2016 and Dystalgia in 2020. Original scripts produced include Operation Wanderlust, Insomniac Salad, Banger’s Elixir, and White Matter Surplus. Among her awards are the Robert Fisher Oxnam Award in Playwriting, grants from the Pennsylvania Humanities Council, Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, and an NEA Arts Journalism Institute fellowship. Alicia holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Theatre Arts from Drew University and an MFA in Writing for Screen and Stage from Point Park University.

This website has been repeatedly reinvented as Alicia explores the ever-changing landscape of Internet publishing and sharing outlets.

It gradually evolved into a personal landing page after first documenting Alicia’s 2009 Individual Creative Artist Fellowship in Arts Commentary Award from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts. That project traced the resurgence of vaudevillian arts in contemporary performance or “neo-vaudeville,” with consideration of accompanying visual and fashion trends like steampunk. Performances studied ranged from alternative circuses and sideshow, punk cabaret, and gypsy punk to burlesque, ventriloquism, and magic acts.

Alicia founded Common Play Factory in 2015, after leaving the Jason Miller Playwrights’ Project, and is looking forward to the “post-pandemic” possibilities of live theatre.
